Trinity gets a Make Over.

As our house in Crete is situated higher than the Holy Trinity Church in our village, we have a good view from the very top dome of the church. It was early one morning,7-0’clock to be precise, we walked out onto our balcony and were surprised to see several workers carrying ladders and  other tools which were unrecognizable to us at the time.  We realized that at long last, our church was about to have a facelift . I have taken photo’s at all stages during this interesting project and got to know most of the Greek workers,

While this work was taking place I could not help but admire the risks that these men take as I watched them walking around at such a height with buckets and ladders, and other tools which were needed for the preparation before paintwork, just as if they were walking along the street with not a care in the world. Yes I know , Of course, they are used to it, its their job. Never the less my heart was in my mouth many time hoping that no one was going to fall, as there was little scaffolding erected around either side of the church. However, later much later, all became clear as we watched the procedure and several hoists were used to get to all parts of the church.

To begin with, two men climbed to the top of the dome where the cross is and attached one end of a harness to the cross and then around himself. Whew! I thought thank goodness, they have some safety. Once secure the work commenced and the other man stayed at the bottom of the ladder for security So the church was now being prepared for the ” Big Facelift ” Of course the dome was just the beginning. You will see from the following pictures what a great job is being done to our  ‘ Holy Trinity Church.’

We all know how pigeons like roosting in and on Church roofs. Now it all has to be cleaned off.I  don’t think I would like that job.

The workers arrived early morning, always on time, and we did not see them standing idle at any time. Holy Trinity Church make over is not yet finished but from work so far you can see that these workers are doing a brilliant job.
