A Poem For Sylvia.

This is a Poem dedicated to my sister Sylvia

And for all those who have lost a loved one.

               POEM

 YOU  CAN  SHED  TEARS

        by  David  Harkins

You can shed tears that she has gone,

Or you can smile because she lived.

You can close your eyes and pray that she’ll come back,

Or you can open your eyes and see all that she has left.

Your heart can be empty because you can’t see her,

Or you can be full of the love you shared.

You can turn your back on to tomorrow and live yesterday,

Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.

You can remember only that she has gone,

Or you can cherish her memory and let it live on.

You can cry and close your mind,

Be empty and turn your back.

Or you can do what she’d want:

Smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

Thankyou for sharing this very touching poem Rita. I am blessed to have had Sylv as my friend for over 25 years and will always cherish her memory and smile when I think of her. She was so gentle and kind and I cannot remember ever hearing her raise her voice or lose her temper. She could always be relied upon to give honest opinions and had a lovely sense of humour.. Her bravery, calmness and dignity throughout her dreadful and prolonged illness were inspirational and although I will miss her, I am happy that she is now free from suffering and that her final wish has been granted. Rest in peace dear Sylv x
